Cleaning and scrubbing will wait ’till tomorrow, but children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow. So quiet down cobwebs! Dust go to sleep! I’m rocking my baby. Babies don’t keep. – Ruth Hamilton

Christmas Craft

I said I wanted to find more ideas for crafting, so through other websites I have all sorts of ideas!  This week was making homemade ordaments for the holidays.  This idea came from the Kid Friendly blog that is listed on the side!  I didn't use their exact recipe because it needed to bake for 2 hours and we were running short on time so I used the following recipe from recipes.com:
Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup salt
1 1/2 cups water

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
2. Combine the flour, salt and water; mix well and knead for 10 minutes. Roll out on a lightly floured surface.
3. Cut into desired shapes and make holes for hanging. Bake for 30 minutes; allow to cool.
4. Decorate with poster paints or tube paints. Allow to dry and spray with clear polyurethane on both sides to preserve. Use ribbon or yarn pieces to hang.

They were very excited to do an activity!
The dough was fun to touch.  Mack really liked the flour on the table.

Then came the fun part.  Cutting out the shapes!
Miss Emily finished the project today with them.  They used any paint we had around the house and painted them.
I love how these turned out.  Now I just need to seal them so they can last through the years.

Also while reading other blogs I realized I should be doing more with both children since they do stay at home.  Avery has been not wanting to sleep, so I think being more stimulated during the day will help.  Lucky for my kids I'm a teacher ;) and Miss Emily's (our nanny) mom is a teacher-between the two of us we plan to fill the following sheet out each week.  It's an easy version of a lesson plan.

Then in order to have all this fun I needed to get control of our craft supplies!  This is what I did over the weekend.  I think it will really help.  One other thing I need to get is a cheap plastic table cloth to throw down when they are making messes (also taken from the Kid Friendly blog).
This makes me excited for the coming months when we will be inside!

  1. Totally trying to do this next week. Hoping my 1.5-year-old does it and I don't end up painting them all.
